You Can’t Buy Your Way to Wellbeing at Work

Create Magic at Work with Chase Sterling

Our Founder, Chase Sterling, recently had the privilege of joining Amy Lynn Durham on the Create Magic at Work® podcast for a conversation about workplace wellbeing, leadership, and what it really takes to create thriving organizations.

In the episode, Chase drew on more than 20 years of experience in workplace wellbeing to share insights on leadership, culture, and systemic change. The discussion reflected core Wellbeing Think Tank beliefs in evidence-based practice, amplifying experts over influencers, and creating spaces where individuals and organizations can flourish together.

Key Insights from the Conversation

  • Wellbeing at work is everything.
Chase explained: “When it comes to wellbeing at work, all you need to do is everything.” Workplace wellbeing extends beyond programs and benefits to include leadership, policies, the physical environment, and organizational culture.

  • You can’t buy your way into a healthy culture.
Quick fixes and trendy tools won’t transform workplaces. Real change requires what Chase calls “messy human work” by centering people, building trust, and committing to long-term cultural shifts.

  • Happiness, health, and productivity are deeply connected.
At the organizational level, healthy and happy employees drive productivity and profitability. At the individual level, purpose and passion matter just as much. Work should be a place that fuels energy, not drains it.

  • Burnout is a systems issue.
“Burnout is not an individual issue. It’s a systems issue,” Chase emphasized. Addressing it requires organizational accountability, not just individual coping strategies.

  • A vision for the future of work.
Chase shared an inspiring vision: “Imagine a world where you leave work feeling better than when you arrived.” The ripple effects for families, communities, and society would be profound.
