A university professor, researcher, author, and speaker, Dr. Mike brings deep expertise on the role of humor in everyday life and work. His TEDx talk, Laughter and Levity: Why You Should Be Smiling More, has inspired more than 60,000 viewers to see humor as a pathway to better health and human connection.

Through his company, Mirth Management, Dr. Mike helps individuals and organizations build engagement, creativity, and resilience by embracing humor as a vital leadership and wellbeing skill. He’s presented to the U.S. Army, healthcare professionals, educators, and business leaders, all with one central message: humor is an untapped resource that can transform the way we lead, connect, and thrive.

Dr. Mike’s work bridges research and real-world application. His books, including The Humor Hack and Putting Humor to Work, connect the science of humor with strategies for happier, more resilient workplaces. He’s published on topics ranging from humor’s role in leadership and communication to its influence on learning and creativity.

With degrees from the University of Kentucky and the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Mike combines philosophical insight with practical expertise. Whether speaking on humor in healthcare or humor in donor relations, his sessions are educational, enjoyable, and grounded in evidence.

When he’s not researching or teaching, you’ll find Dr. Mike woodworking, cooking, or spending time with his wife, three sons, and two dogs.
